these pictures are 10 days old, they were taken while i was down south. i have spent a lot of time in Majar al-kabir and to our (mis)fortune the british decided to do a patrol while we were there when we went to Majar the next day the wouldn't talk to us because they thought we were snoops for the British.
i should have an entry in the word blog about what happened in Majar the couple of times we were there. I have it in my notebook. it will be on the blog i just need to type it in.
the first couple of fotos are from the first British patro; after the Majar incidents, everybody was a bit nervous and we actually walked around wearing flak vests.
then a couple of days later there was a meeting in the city of Majar at the brigade's station. the british came in with brigade members from other city and they spent some time talking to the Iraqis in Majar. by this time the Brigade in Majar was complaining that the British were interogating Brigade members and beating them up during that interogation. and they were telling us about a "sniffer - shamshoom", that's what they were calling the Iraqi whom I saw go in the police station with the british. he had a Kufiah wrapped around his head and was wearing big dark sunglasses. more about that in the word blog
Hello Salam. I took liberty of fixing the photos you uploaded. It seems the JPG images uploaded were corrupt and contained a bit-stream of irrelevant data at the beginning. If you can contact us via Email (support@fotopages.com) and let us know if the files were ok before you uploaded them and if so in what way/browser you uploaded them that will help greatly. Looking forward to hearing from you.
I am replying here to your open question, "Other than Unicef who should we be contacting? ", posted yesterday because I don't know if you are able to read all your mail. You could e-mail and ask for help from
mwhl@amrnet.demon.co.uk
the Muslim Women's Refuge in London, a voluntary organisation. They say,
on their home page,
that they can only offer help to those living in the UK but, "However, if you live outside the UK and need help in finding support locally you may contact us by email.
We cannot promise to provide you with counselling but we hope to be able to refer you to other organisations that can help you."
Good luck.

you've got a clear and honest view of your world salam there is nothing i've read that you've written that i would have an argument with. i hope that that given your recent, and future experiences to come, don't crush the humanity in you.
good luck-may the divine watch over you

Dear Jerry,
From our safe Western "bubble" where freedom is The Right, I find it intellectually dishonest to condem the hard work the Irak people and the coalition forvces are doing to change things around. Remember this country use to be Hell for just about every one, since it was sadam and his sons personal play ground. It is though enough for a single individu to find freedom when trapped, imagine how essential but overwelming the task is for and entire population. Think about that sweet hearth!

Terrorists ... they are really strange creatures.
Especially the so called religious types. They kill and maim and brutalize some of Allah's children and expect to get into the heaven of the same said Allah. Like duhhhh.
Some of those religious leaders are just as strange. They will teach and preach and otherwise encourage zealots to go and do the killing. They expect some free pass into heaven also, as if they never really did any of the killing. They must think the Almighty Allah won't be able to figure out the connection. Like duhhhh.
What the terrorists think, "Let's go blow ourselves to bits and kill some of the invading infidels and any other muslims who just happen to get in the way." What satan thinks, "Some humans are so dumb and easy targets for doing what I want."
Terrorists and their leaders claim they are doing their thing for the benefit of Islam. They are totally clueless of what Allah wants for the benefit of all His religions.
Peace is an extremist, Islamic religious leader preaching to an empty mosque.
From Iraqi reporters (I assume) attending the news briefing concerning the capture of Saddam Hussein when they saw the images on the monitors: "Death to Hussein! Death to Hussein! Long live Iraq!"

So. SalamPax has to have a really bad cold to keep him home and posting to his blog. Well it is good to read you're blogging again but I am sorry about the cold thingy. Get well soon.
I have begun to wonder, do the Iraqis have songs and ballads about their history? Lore and tales and storys of people and events of the the past? Do they sing them at gathering places, festivals, pubs and taverns?
I wonder what will the songs of these times, recent decades as well as these recent months, be like?
Alcohol has been contraband in Iraq since the seventh or eighth century. Not a lot of taverns or pubs, from what I understand. Also, some sects of Islam forbid music for entertainment. Or any entertainment, for that matter.

Islam forbids alcohol for it makes you an animal and takes away your wisdom . It also forbids lusty music 4 the same reason . Iraq has one of the most ancient cultures with its own mythes, songs etc.
I will like to see some one i will have as a nice character and nice behavior.

Good afternoon. The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.
